James Unanimous All-WSC Selection

Glendora, CA -- The 2013 All-Western State Conference selections were announced on Tuesday evening, and Citrus College Sophomore Blake James was a unanimous selection to the 1st team. James, was one of five total Owls to dot the list, but the only one to be named 1st team.

James batted a team high .392 on the season, with a team high 12 doubles, and a team high 23 runs scored. James also drove in 22 RBI's, the second highest total on the team. James also led the team in total extra base hits with 14, and posted a .964 fielding percentage helping turn 14 double plays on the year.

Earning 2nd team All-WSC South honors was sophomore Warren Fishback. Fishback was second on the team in batting average (.383) and led the team in on-base percentage (.511). Fishback scored 20 runs for the Owls, and drove in 12 more. He stole three bases, and posted a .966 fielding percentage while playing 32 games for the Owls at third base.

Three Owls also earned All-WSC South Honorable Mention honors. All three Owls were freshman. Jayson De La Pena was a one of the three, getting rewarded for his play at first base for Citrus. De La Pena batted .288 on the year with nine runs scored and 11 RBI's. More impressively, De La Pena posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Pitchers Marcos Martinez and Ryan Ponder were also honored. Martinez appeared in 13 games on the hill for the Owls with nine starts. Martinez posted just a 3-5 record, but led the Owls in innings pitched (66), posted a 4.50 ERA, and was second on the team with 36 K's. Ponder meanwhile, appeared in 20 games, starting five before making the switch to the bullpen late in the year. That's when he really began to excel. Ponder ended the year with a 3.78 ERA, 31 K's, and 50 innings of work.  

2013 All-WSC South List
