Grace, Reynoso, and Patton Headline Owls All-Conference Selections

Glendora, CA -- The 2014 Western State Conference South Division awards were announced recently and sophomore Jonathon Reynoso along with freshman Taylor Grace and Sean Patton were the headliners. All three earned 1st team honors, with Patton being a unanimous selection.

Reynoso had a solid 2014 campaign, batting .310 overall with a team leading 30 RBI's. Reynoso scored nine runs, with five doubles, and a pair of triples. Reynoso also swiped a pair of bags.

Grace meanwhile had an outstanding freshman campaign as he was at the top of most offensive categories for Citrus. Grace was second in batting average (.336), first in total hits (44), tops in doubles (9), and home runs (3). Grace also led the Owls with 31 runs scored and was second on the team with 23 RBI's. Grace also posted 11 stolen bases, to go along with a .380 on-base percentage, and a .489 slugging percentage.

Patton meanwhile, was the Owls' undisputed ace. Patton went 5-4 on the year with a 2.07 ERA. Patton led the team in K's, with 62, and held opposing batters to just a .219 average. In over 65 innings of work, Patton allowed just 15 earned runs, and average 8.54 strikeouts a game.

In addition to those three, sophomore Nathan Virgen and freshman Nicholas Sergi were named to the 2nd team. Virgen led the Owls in average (.350), was third in walks (16), and led the team in stolen bases (16). Sergi also had an outstanding freshman season on the bump, forming a formidable one-two punch with Patton. Sergi was 5-1 with a 1.99 ERA, and 38 K's on the season.

Freshmen Brendan Campbell and Aaron Torres along with sophomore Jayson De La Pena all were an Honorable Mention Selection. Campbell appeared in 25 games for the Owls behind the plate, batting .242 with eight RBI's and 11 runs scored. Torres was the main starting right fielder for the Owls in 2014, batting .272, with an impressive .425 on-base percentage. Torres also broke the single season program record for most hit by pitches with 18. De La Pena was an Honorable Mention selection for the second straight year. Last year, De La Pena was named to the team as a first baseman, while this year he made it thanks to his work out of the bullpen. De La Pena was 1-1 with four saves, a 0.79 ERA, and 24 K's, with an average of 9.53 K per 9.

Rounding out the honors was freshman first baseman Troy Resch. Resch was named the first base Golden Glove for the WSC South and the Gold Glove winner for the entire conference. As the starting first baseman for the entire year, Resch didn't commit a single error, posting 301 put outs and 12 assists, for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
