San Bernardino, CA -- The Citrus College Baseball program hit the road on Thursday afternoon and were sent home with a 3-2 loss, after giving up a run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Of their five losses, it was the third time Citrus gave up the winning run after the seventh inning.

It wasn't doom and gloom to start off the day, as Citrus built up an early lead with a run in each of the second and third innings. Freshman Rudy Casarez III belted an RBI single in the second to drive in sophomore Aaron Torres, and Sophomore Shawn Sweeney laced a double to left field that drove in sophomore Troy Resch to make it 2-0.

San Bernardino would come back in the bottom of the fourth to make it 1-2, and then eventually tie the game up in the bottom of the fifth with another run. It wasn't due to the effort of sophomore starting pitcher Nicholas Sergi though, who was sterling in six innings of work, striking out four batters, and not allowing a single earned run between the two.

All in all, Citrus committed four errors on the day, and that would come back to haunt Citrus, as all three of the runs scored by the host Wolverines were of the unearned variety. San Bernardino would score the games winning run with a two out RBI single, in an inning that was prolonged by the Owls' fourth error.

In the loss, Citrus was led by Casarez and Sweeney. Casarez was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two stolen bases, while Sweeney finished 2 for 4.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 5-5-1 on the season. The Owls will be on the road again this coming Saturday when they travel to Ventura College for a 1:00 PM start.
