Grace, Resch, and Sergi Highlight Baseball All-Conference List

Glendora, CA -- A trio of sophomores who were integral to the Citrus College Baseball program's success this past season were named 1st team All-Western State Conference South Division selections recently. Taylor Grace, Troy Resch, and Nicholas Sergi all earned the top nods, headlining a list of seven total Owls.

Grace led the Owls and the entire WSC in hitting in 2015, batting .400. Grace also scored a team high 33 runs, and was second on the team with 24 RBI's. Grace led the Owls with 15 doubles, and hit one triple and one home run. In the field, Grace made the transition from second base last season to center field this year, where he had 117 putouts, four assists, and just one error.

Resch meanwhile, tore the cover off the ball over the last half of the season. Resch batted .336 on the year, but posted an impressive .378 batting average in WSC play. Resch was second on the team in runs scored (24) and led the Owls in RBIs (26). Resch hit 13 doubles, one triple, and one home run, while playing error free defense over at first base. For his efforts there, Resch was also recognized as the WSC South's Gold Glove Award winner at that position. In 66 career games, Resch never committed an error.

Sergi was the Owls' ace in 2015, going 9-2 on the hill with one save. Sergi posted a 2.50 ERA, and fanned 57 batters against just 18 walks in 90 innings of work. Sergi held opposing hitters to a .242 batting average and finished his career with 14 victories.

Earning 2nd team All-WSC South honors was freshman third base man Jonathan Ayala. Ayala batted .341 on the season and led the team in on-base percentage with a .459 clip. Ayala scored 20 runs, drove in 20 RBIs, and hit two home runs.

Rounding out the conference awards were sophomore catcher Shawn Sweeney, freshman short stop Michael Carlos, and freshman second baseman Rudy Casarez III. Sweeney hit .276 with 20 runs and 17 RBIs, while Carlos batted .259 with 23 runs scored, 15 RBIs, and Casarez .293 with a .411 on-base percentage, 17 runs, and 12 RBIs.
