Owls Win Second Straight at San Bernardino

San Bernardino, CA - After earning their first win of the season 24 hours ago, Citrus went on the road and defeated host San Bernardino Valley College for their second straight victory. The Owls got another solid outing from sophomore Brennan Piceno, and won 7-3 against the Wolverines.

The Owls put two on the board right away getting a 2-RBI double from freshman Kristian Scott that plated sophomore Marcos Campos and freshman Donovyn Curiel. In the top of the second, Citrus kept it rolling getting a 2-RBI single from Campos that would bring home sophomores Kyosuke Ushimaru and Jordan Achay.

With a firm 4-0 lead at his back, Piceno (1-0) went to work. Piceno surrendered just two total runs in his six innings on the hill, only one of which was earned. Piceno did hand out four walks, but only gave up four hits and did fan five batters as he did more than his fair share.

In the top of the eighth, Citrus would pick up three more runs, all unearned and all thanks to fielding miscues by the Wolverines. San Bernardino would add one more on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth, but Citrus held firm in the ninth to secure their opening win.

No Owl would finish with more than one hit on the afternoon, as the hits were spread out evenly among seven different hitters. Campos would lead the way in runs scored, getting around the bases twice.

With the win, Citrus improves to 2-3-1 on the young year. The Owls will be back at home on Saturday when they open up a five game home stand against Mt. San Jacinto College. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
