Owls Drop Finale With Antelope Valley

Lancaster, CA - The Citrus College Baseball team failed to record a sweep on Saturday afternoon in a 5-3 loss at Antelope Valley College. The Owls had won the previous three meetings with the Marauders, but gave up four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and couldn't secure the season sweep.

The Owls afternoon got off to a good enough start, as they scored three runs in the top of the second inning. Sophomore Jordan Achay drove in sophomore Kyosuke Ushimaru with a single to get the scoring going on the day. Freshman Donovyn Curiel would follow that up with a sacrifice fly to center field that plated sophomore Garret Barnes, while freshman Kristian Scott gave Citrus a 3-0 lead with an RBI single that brought in Achay.

The 3-0 lead would last through the fifth inning for the Owls, when the Marauders scored four runs in that previously mentioned fifth. Antelope would go on to add an insurance run in the eighth, while Citrus put just one runner in scoring position over the final seven innings.

In the loss, Citrus was led by Scott and Curiel who each had a pair of hits. With the loss, Citrus drops to 14-12-2 overall and 6-4-1 in WSC East play. The Owls will be back at home on Tuesday when they host Victor Valley College for a 2:30 PM start.
