Baseball Season Opener A Success

Baseball Season Opener A Success

Citrus Baseball opened up the 2018 campaign with a 3-1 win over visiting Oxnard College in a non-conference matchup at the Citrus diamond Friday.

Citrus scored its first run of the season on a solo homer by Thomas Chavez in the first inning, the first of his Citrus career. Oxnard also had a solo homer, in the 4th inning by Robert Sandoval. The score would stay tied until the 8th when Head Coach Steve Gomez would give Freshman Justin Pruszynski the nod to pinch hit with two runners on. Pruszynski would come through with a single to right field, scoring both runners and putting the Owls up 3-1 for the duration of the game.

The Citrus pitching lineup held the visiting Condors to three hits, no walks and 18 strikeouts. Starter Peter Eitapence fanned 7 batters through 4 innings when he was replaced by Sir Jordan Gomez, who would strike out 8 en route to earning the win. Reliever Matthew Sanchez earned his first save of the season with a perfect three-strikeout 9th inning.

The Owls play next on Tuesday at Rio Hondo College, first pitch is at 2:00 PM.
