Gomez Narrowly Misses One-Hit Shutout

Citrus pitcher Sir Jordan Gomez was on top of his game yesterday as the Citrus Baseball team topped visiting LA Mission 3-2. In 6 appearances on the mound this year for the Owls, Gomez has fanned 42 batters for an average of 12.46 K's per game. His 4-0 record puts him at 4th in the state., and the 42 strikeouts is enough to put Gomez as the statewide leader in that category. Matthew Sanchez picked up his 3rd save of the season, relieving Gomez in the top of the 9th.

Citrus played insanely good defense to back Gomez up, committing no errors and 27 putouts on 11 assists.

Designated hitter Kristian Scott knocked in 2 of the Owl runs with a 3rd inning double, and Donovyn Curiel sealed the deal wth a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Alexis Paz who had reached base on a walk and advanced to third on Scott's double.

La mission rallied in the 9th, hitting a two run dinger to pressure Gomez. Head Coach Steve Gomez made the call to the bullpen for Sanchez, who forced the Eagles into a groundout to end the game.

Citrus improves to 8-6 on the year and takes the field again today as they travel to Mt. San Jacinto for a noon start.
