Citrus Baseball travelled to Antelope Valley Thursday to open WSC East conference play and made the trek home with the taste of victory on their tongues. The Owls went 10 innings with the Marauders, routing the home team's pitching staff for a 23-hit whopper of a game. Although AVC had a solid offensive showing as well, it wasn't nearly enough to hold off the rallying Owls.

Thomas Chavez, who extended his season long hitting streak to 18 games, did it in style with 3 hits for 3 RBI's, including a double and a triple. Chavez, a Freshman from Covina, is currently ranked #10 in the state in hits. Sluggers Teppei Fukuda, Donovyn Curiel, Alexis Paz (who is ranked #13 statewide in hits), and Jose Sanchez each recorded at least 3 hits on the day en route to the 15-11 win.

The Owl's would go through 4 pitchers, striking out 12 as a team. Matthew Sanchez would ultimately earn the win and moves to 1-2 on the season.

The conference-opening win puts the Owls tied for first in the WSC East at 1-0 and improves their overall season record to 11-7. Citrus takes the field today at 1:00 as it plays host to Victor Valley for a conference contest. *
