The young men of Citrus Baseball swept the 2018 conference series over Antelope Valley this weekend, culminating a 3 game series stretch that spanned last week. The two teams had squared off once previously in early March, a ten inning offensive battle in which the Owls prevailed 15-11. Perhaps miraculously, there were no weather delays despite the rains all week. Both ball clubs put a lot of time and effort into their field maintenance in anticipation and it paid off.

Citrus went into the 3 game face-off last week having dropped 2 straight key conference matchups to Barstow and Glendale. The Owls took ownership of their fate though and recovered with 3 hard fought wins. The sweep drove a spike into the WSC East standings and divided the top and bottom halves. Glendale still sits in first, undefeated. And now the Owls are locked in a dog fight with Canyons for a share of second at 6-2.

After having blown out the Marauders 15-5 on Tuesday, Citrus hosted again on Friday. But this time it would go down to the wire with the Owls scoring the wining run in the bottom of the 8th on a Thomas Chavez sacrifice fly that scored pinch runner Kirk Cabana

Donovyn Curiel and Kristin Scott both homered and Matthew Sanchez picked up the win from the mound. Peter Eitapence notched 7 K's in 6 innings pitched as the starter.

Saturday the Owls would travel to Lancaster to round out the series and picked up another late inning victory. Citrus scored the tying and winning runs in the top of the 9th, holding on tight on the defensive side to snatch the win.

Sir Jordan Gomez pitched most of the final two innings and notched his 8th win of the year, improving to 8-1. Thomas Chavez hit a monstrous 4 for 6 with 4 RBI's and a stolen base, and  was the base hit that drove in the go-ahead runs in the 9th that sealed the victory for Citrus.

Citrus will take the field again tomorrow at home against Mt. San Antonio for the first of a 3 game non-conference stretch. The Owls will resume conference play in April.
