Baseball Bashes Barstow

Baseball headed out to Barstow yesterday and got dizzy from running the bases in a 20-2 monster routing of the Vikings. The win snapped a four game losing skid that had cemented Citrus in the #3 spot in the WSC East, out of reach of the conference leader Glendale College. 

Citrus had a field day at the plate against the Barstow pitching staff, forcing the Vikings into using seven of its personnel from the bullpen. Citrus recorded 20 runs on 24 hits, both season highs for the Owls, as well as boasting a .462 average as a team. 

Alexis Paz charted a 5 for 6 day for 1 run, 6 RBI's and a stolen base; Thomas Chavez got his rhythm back and went 4 for 6, scoring 2 runs and snagging an extra base. Those two players are the #1 and #2 hitters in the conference respectively. Jesse Villalobos smacked 3 hits for 3 runs and 3 RBI's; and Isaiah Montoya wrapped up the day with 3 hits, 3 runs and 2 RBI's. Pitcher Sir Jordan Gomez pitched 5 innings, fanning 7 batters and improving his season record to 10-2. That puts him at 2nd best in the state for wins, and his 84 strikeouts are 5th in all of California. 

Citrus still enjoys a top a 5 ranking in the state in team offense, maintaining a consistent standard at the plate, despite some setback losses over the past weeks. The Owls will continue to fight for a playoff berth as they face some of the toughest competition of the year next week, in what will be the last 3 games of the Glendale series and subsequently the end of the regular season. 

The Owls improve to 20-15 on the season with a 9-6 conference record. Citrus takes the field again at home tomorrow against Barstow, game time is set for 2:30 PM.
