Citrus Baseball took the field Wednesday in a game that was rescheduled from Tuesday due to the rains. The Owls hosted Oxnard and slugged it out with the Condors, ending in a 9-9 tie in a game that was called on account of darkness.
The tie moves Citrus to 1-3-1 on the season, and was the best offensive performance by the Owls in 2019 besides one other game, the season opening 10-5 win at Oxnard on January 25th.
Go Hattori did a lot of the heavy lifting late in the game for the Owls, going 4 for 5 including a double. In the bottom of the 7th, Hattori would put the Owls up for the first time since the 2nd inning when he hit a single to left field that scored Kanta Kobayashi and Ethan Cummins, putting Citrus up 6-5. Tyler Kretschmar then added another single, this time to right field, and scored Hattori to make it 7-5 Citrus.
The Condors returned the favor in the top of the 8th, putting together a 3 run inning to go up 9-7. Citrus came into the bottom of the 9th and delivered big time when Kobayashi hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Chase Pederson, and then Hattori drove in his 3rd run of the game, knocking in Cummins with a single to left field that tied it up at 9.
The officials deemed it too dark to continue safely, and the game was subsequently called after 9 innings, ending in a 9-9 tie.
Citrus takes the field again at home when they host LA Mission College at 2:00 PM.
