Baseball Splits Games With Glendale in Season Series Wrap Up

Citrus Baseball played a pair of games against Glendale College Thursday and Friday, wrapping up the 4 game season series between the two WSC East rivals. The Owls split the games, dropping the season series 1-3, and all but guaranteeing a 2nd place finish in the tough conference.

Citrus hosted the Vaqueros Thursday and snatched a victory, going neck and neck with the WSC East leaders, and scoring the wining runs in the 6th inning. The Owls would then hold off the visitors on defense and capture the win 4-3.

Mario Castro picked up the win from the mound, improving his record to 2-1 in 2019. Julian Fonseca struck out 3 batters on 8 faced in relief of Castro, and Samuel Gomez picked up his 2nd save of the year with a perfect 9th inning, facing 3 batters and striking out all 3.

At the plate, Kanta Kobayashi continued his impressive hitting for the Owls, going 4 for 5 with a run and 2 stolen bases. Kobayashi currently ranks amongst the best players in California. He is ranked 3rd in the state in stolen bases with 23, 15th in batting average with a .397 mark, 15th in hits with 50, and 25th in triples with 3.

Grant Woodward cracked a 2 run homer, ending the day 2 for 2 with 2 RBI's and a run. Teppei Fukuda was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

In Friday's matchup on the road in Glendale, the Owls struggled and lost the game 20-1.

Citrus moves to 14-17-1 overall on the season and 10-7 in conference. The Owls take the field this week in a pair of Regional games against local rival Mt. San Antonio. The first game is at home on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 2:30 PM.
