Owls Battle Knights

Citrus College Baseball hosted San Diego City College today, suffering a 12-11 defeat.

Citrus College moves to 4-7 overall on the season, while San Diego City College goes to 3-5 overall on the year.

Despite today's impressive offensive display, including two homeruns from Luke Willison, the Owls' 16 hits and 11 runs scored was not enough to earn them the win against the Knights.

Citrus College put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning to go up 3-0 after Jordan Quintero's RBI single and Derek Leader's two-RBI single. San Diego City College answered with seven combined runs scored through the top of the second and third innings to go up 7-3. Citrus had a three-run bottom of the fourth inning thanks to doubles off the bats off Isaac Nava and Danyal Jenkins, making the score 7-6. Luke Willison hit the first of his two home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 7-7.

San Diego City College added two runs in the top of the sixth inning to go up 9-7 before Luke Willison's second solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning got the Owls within two runs at 9-7. A three-run bottom of the eighth inning gave the Owls an 11-9 lead after Jordan Quintero's single scored Nathan Hellein and Dustin Yela. The Knights ended up scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning to secure the win.

The Owls were led by Luke Willison, who tied his total homerun output of last season with his third today while going 3-for-4 with two homeruns, three runs scored and two RBIs. Jordan Quintero went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and one run scored. Derek Leader went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored, while Danyal Jenkins went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one stolen base.

Jonathan Maldonado drew the start and struck out three through two innings with one earned run.

Citrus College will host Ohlone College for a two-game series this week, with game one on Friday, February 21st followed by game two on Saturday, February 22nd. Both games are scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
