Woes Continue for Owls at Harbor

Wilmington, CA -- The Citrus College Football program's woes in 2015 continued over the weekend when they travelled to Los Angeles Harbor College for an SCFA National Division Central League meeting with the Seahawks. The Owls gave up a 95 yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the opening play, and things went downhill from there in a 54-34 setback.

Harbor put two scores up on the board on Saturday night, before the Owls were able to do the same. Freshman quarterback Brian Meyette found freshman Jordan Mathis for a 36 yard touchdown pass and run that made it 14-7. Harbor would respond with a 26 yard field goal, before the Owls rallied with another score when freshman running back Lawon Carney got loose on a 40 yard touchdown scamper that made it 17-14. The Owls never got any closer.

The Seahawks would go on to score 17 straight, before the Owls finally stopped the bleeding midway through third on a two-yard touchdown run by Meyette. Harbor scored twice more though shortly thereafter and the Owls' final two scores, a 13 yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Steven Garcia and an 18 yard quarterback scramble for a touchdown by freshman Nolan Brammer, did nothing to cut down the big Seahawk lead.

In the loss, Meyette, was a respectable 16 of 30 for 211 yards with a touchdown pass, a touchdown run, and just one interception. Carney finished the night with 104 yards rushing on 16 carries, averaging 6.5 yards per clip. Freshman wideout Gino Mastandrea hauled in a team high six catches for a  team best 96 yards. Defensively, freshman defensive end Jared Brito led the Owls with a team high eight tackles, including half a tackle for a loss.

The Owls will look to turn things around and stop their current losing streak this coming Saturday when they hit the road yet again. Citrus will travel to Bakersfield College for a 6:00 PM kick-off at Memorial Stadium.
