Glendora, CA - Citrus College sophomore running back Abel Morales will be continuing his football and educational career in 2017 for the University of St. Mary (KS). The Spires are a member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Association and the NAIA.

"When I went on my visit to St. Mary, the coaching staff was there and waiting for me. It felt right from the moment I stepped on campus," Morales said. "I got to spend time with the head coach and get to know him on a personal level, and it gave me the feeling that this is where I needed to be."

Morales played two seasons with the Owls, playing as a running back and as a member of the special teams units. Morales averaged 3.3 yards per carry, averaged 8.2 yards per reception out of the backfield, and scored one touchdown. As a kick returner, Morales averaged 26.6 yards per return.

"Citrus was a reality check for me. Coach Ponciano was tough on me, in a positive way from the jump, but I appreciated that and that is something that made me better," Morales said. "It's gotten me to where I am today, and will play a role in who I will be in the future."

"Abel's calling card has always been his work ethic. He led by example, by working harder than everyone, in and out of the classroom," said Citrus College Head Football Coach Ron Ponciano. "His hard work has paid off in the form of this scholarship, and we know he will continue to work hard for St. Mary's. Finding his replacement will be a tough task."
