Former Owl Newton Chooses Sioux Falls

Glendora, CA - Former Citrus College wide receiver Brayton Newton has chosen the University of Sioux Falls to continue his educational and football career. Newton wrapped up his career with the Owls in 2015, finishing in the Top 10 in the Citrus history books in all three major career statistical categories.  

"They [Sioux Falls] play at a really high level of competition. I really bought into how they run their program and the philosophy of their school," Newton said. "It's a great opportunity for me to go in and make my mark, just like I was able to here."

Over the course of two seasons, Newton hauled in 66 total catches for 871 yards, and 11 touchdowns. He ranks second in career touchdowns, seventh in career receptions, and eighth in career yards. Newton averaged 13.2 yards per reception for his career, with a long of 74.

"When I came to Citrus, I was in a place where I didn't know what I was going to do with the rest of my life. Being here gave me a lot of structure and stability," Newton said. "It gave me a chance to be at a place where I could set myself up for success in the future."

Newton's signature game in an Owls' uniform was also his last. In the Owls' finale against State #4 and Southern California #2 Riverside City College, Newton caught seven passes for a career high 180 yards and a touchdown. The 180 yards was also a Citrus College record for most yards receiving in a single game.

"Brayton has fought through some adversity and worked hard to get to the point where he is now ready to transfer to a four-year university," said Citrus College Head Football Coach Ron Ponciano. "His maturation over the last couple of years has put him in a position to be successful for Sioux Falls."
