Citrus Block Party Ends in Celebration

Blocked kicks, turnovers and big penalties would be the tale of the day in Citrus College's narrow 14-13 victory over San Bernardino Valley on Saturday. San Bernardino would see several opportunities to edge out the Fighting Owls, but were plagued by untimely personal fouls and missed opportunities.

Citrus leaned heavily on their ground attack and the one-two punch of sophomore running back Devin Floyd and freshman running back Jamar Graves. The pair would combine for a total of 151 rushing yards on the day, with Floyd notching a pair of touchdowns. But the difference maker Saturday would be the Citrus defense and special teams, who made several big stops and knocked back field goal attempts an impressive two times. The second of those blocks came in the clutch to deny San Bernardino's PAT attempt that would have tied the game at 14-14. Defensive end Grant Trueman had one of those blocks and also added a game leading 3.5 sacks, keeping the Wolverine's offensive line on their heels throughout the day.

The final score would at last be a good omen for the Owls, as they've scored 14 points in each of their 3 games this season, the first two resulting in narrow 17-14 losses. But 14 was enough Saturday as the Owls improve to 1-2 on the season. Citrus College faces Southwestern next Saturday on the road. Kickoff is at 6:00 PM.
