Owls Stay Unbeaten In Lopsided Win Over Compton

Citrus Football played a Southern California regional game at Compton College Saturday. The Owls took down the Tartars in a one-sided effort, 45-6. The win improves Citrus to 2-0 in 2019.

The Owls wasted no time getting on the board, posting a TD and PAT in just the first drive of the game. The 60 yard, game opening drive ended with Austin Zavala completing an 11 yard pass to Jeremiah Flores for the quick 6. Sean Bailey, Jr. added the PAT, his first in a perfect 5 for 5 day. The Owls would add 3 more points in the 1st quarter on a 35 yard drive and 25 yard field goal by Bailey.

Citrus would expand the lead in each of the remaining quarters with a steady run game, made possible by stellar blocking by the offensive line. Kasmir Dina picked up a TD in the 2nd quarter on a 38 yard run; Also in the 2nd quarter, Sal Tovar posted his 2nd TD of the season on a 35 yard run of his own.

The 2nd half was more of the same. EJ Gowdy, Walter Carl, and Ernesto Camacho all scored running TD's in the 2nd half, with Carl and Camacho now totaling 2 TD's a piece on the season.

Aside from posting 413 yards of total offense, the Owl defense was spectacular in their game plan execution, allowing just -5 total offense yards for Compton. The Owls put up a veritable wall in front of the Tartar run game, knocking back the home team a cumulative 85 yards in the effort. Kendal Henderson recorded 6 total tackles on the day to lead the Owls, including a pair of sacks for a net loss of 23 yards, as well as a forced fumble. Four other defensemen posted sacks, Carlos Salinas, Kalen Muhammed, Reggie Crawford, and Isaac Schmidt

Citrus moves on to its next matchup this Saturday at home vs Palomar. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM in Citrus Stadium.
