Football: Owls Clash With Wolverines

Citrus Football hit the road to San Bernardino Valley College on Saturday for an American Mountain Division conference game. The Wolverines topped the Owls 41-19 in what is the first loss of 2019 for the Owls.

The Owls had strong performances from several individuals in the effort. Offensively, freshman wide receiver Caleb Robinson scored his 1st career touchdown, and promptly followed up with his 2nd and 3rd, scoring all 3 Owl touchdowns on the day. Robinson's 3 scores all came on receptions, 2 from quarterback Ernesto Camacho, and the other by Austin Zavala. Robinson's longest was a 69 yarder from Camacho as time ran out in the 4th quarter. That play would also be the biggest offensive play by either team in the game. Jeremiah Lineberger recorded 2 receptions for 54 yards, with a long of 42, and Jeremiah Flores pulled in 4 receptions for 44 yards and a 21 yard long.

Defensively, Joseph Castillo led the way in tackles for the Owls with 6, and he also picked off a pass with a 7 yard return. Derrion Warner and Kalen Muhammed each recorded 5 tackles, with Muhammed getting in on a sack as well. Daniel Pena and Carlos Salinas each posted 4 tackles, as well as a sack each.

Despite the loss, the Owls maintain one of the top records in California at 7-1 overall. Citrus now occupies the #2 spot in conference behind San Bernardino who is still unbeaten in the American Mountain Division.

The guys take the field again this Saturday in another road game at Antelope Valley. Game time is 2:00.
