Owls Spoil Eagles' Home Debut in New Stadium

No. 15-ranked Citrus College spoiled Mt. San Jacinto's very first game in its new stadium with a 16-7 victory over the Eagles.

The Owls improve to 2-0 on the young year with their 16^th-straight win, carried over since 2021, which now sits as the longest winning streak in the state. The Eagles drop to 0-2 with the loss.

Citrus finished with 417 total offensive yards, dominating the run game with 231 rushing yards while limiting Mt. San Jacinto to just 57 rushing yards. Tayvonne Miller had nine carries for the Owls for 77 yards and scored one rushing touchdown and one passing touchdown. Kannon Katzer had 16 carries for 72 yards.

Defensively, the Owls had a solid game to keep the Eagles at bay. Jamarius Isaac finished with seven tackles, while Chandler Carthan had six, including one for loss, and grabbed an interception. Fred Martin and Drew Merrill also grabbed interceptions, including a big snag from Martin in the endzone to keep Mt. San Jacinto from scoring.

After both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter, Citrus finally broke through in the second after Miller ran in a 46-yard pass from Koy Riggin.

The Eagles looked like they might get on the board on their next drive, getting into the red zone, but Martin one-handed snatched the ball out of the air for an interception to keep Mt. San Jacinto scoreless.

Kosuke Kayahara knocked in a 27-yard field goal just before halftime to give the Owls a 10-0 lead at the break.

Mt. San Jacinto broke through in the third to pull back within a possession, but another Miller touchdown kept some cushion for the Owls, who held on for the 16-7 victory.

Citrus continues on the road as it begins conference action next week, taking on Grossmont College at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
