#8 Rustlers Run Past #12 Owls in Fourth
No. 12-ranked Citrus College took on its second-straight top-10-ranked team on Saturday but dropped a 31-21 loss to No. 8-ranked Golden West College.
The Owls slip to 3-2 on the year, while the Rustlers improve to 4-1o overall.
Citrus finished with 317 total offensive yards, including 164 passing yards and 153 rushing yards.
Koy Riggin went 22-for-37 with one touchdown and no interceptions. Jesse Carmona had six receptions, including a touchdown, while Kannon Katzer had 19 carries with one touchdown and Tayvonne Miller had 12 carries with one touchdown.
Defensively, Cody Stordahl had six tackles, including four solo efforts. Hunter Corbin had an interception for the Owls and five tackles.
After finding itself tailing 17-6 at halftime, Citrus came out and scored a quick touchdown in the third after Riggin found Carmona for an eight-yard touchdown. The two then teamed up again for the two-point conversion to put the Owls within three, 17-14.
Citrus took the lead, 21-17, just before the third quarter expired as Katzer ran in for a three-yard touchdown and Kosuke Kayahara knocked in the extra point.
It didn't last, however, as the Rustlers ran away with the lead in the fourth quarter with two touchdowns to secure the 31-21 victory.
The Owls get some time to recover with a bye week next weekend before returning to action at home on Oct. 14 when San Bernardino Valley College comes to town for a 6 p.m. game time.
