Men’s Basketball Announces Five Signings

July 15, 2013

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Men’s Basketball team announced five of its athletes have signed scholarship offers over the past month. Sophomores Kerry Carter and Steven Thornton Jr., who had previously committed to other schools but were released due to coaching changes, have now signed with St. Mary’s College and the University of California Riverside respectively. Sophomores Jordan Mackie and Brent Watkins will be headed to Humboldt State and the University of Lethbridge, while freshman Kumase Demesma will get out early and head to Hope International University.

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Men’s Basketball program is set to host its 9th Annual Citrus College Men’s Basketball Summer Camp. The camp is for boys and girls ages 6-14 and has four sessions beginning June 17th.

Glendora, CA -- Former Citrus College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Rick Croy, who spent the last three seasons as the Top Assistant at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA was named the Head Coach at NCAA DII California Baptist University (CBU) on Wednesday.

Glendora, CA -- Citrus College sophomore Steven Thornton Jr. has accepted a scholarship offer from California State University Northridge. Thornton Jr., who was the only Owl to appear and start in all 27 games for Citrus this past season, will suit up for the Matadors of the Big West next season.

Glendora, CA -- Citrus College Sophomore Steven Thornton Jr. was named the Western State Conference South division player of the week on Tuesday thanks to his play at the WSC South Tournament last week. It’s the sixth time an Owl won the award this year, and the second time Thornton has won the award on his own.

Glendora, CA -- The post-season brackets are out, and the Citrus College Men’s Basketball team has earned the #17 seed in Southern California. That means that the Owls will be on the road in the first round of the playoffs for the first time in the most recent era. The Owls will be at #16 seed Cuesta College on Wednesday with a 7:00 PM tip time set.

Just What They Needed?

Santa Clarita, CA -- While it arguably didn’t have much bearing on the Owls’ post-season status, Friday’s win over host College of the Canyons in the Championship Game of the inaugural WSC South Tournament may be important for other reasons. The 77-71 may be just what the Owls’ needed as they turn their focus to the playoffs starting next week.

For Good Measure

Santa Clarita, CA -- All signs pointed to the Citrus College Men's Basketball qualifying for the 2013 CCCAA post-season next week, but the Owls still could have used a win on Thursday for good measure. Citrus got just that as they out scored Santa Monica College by 14 in the second half en route to a 77-68 win over the Corsairs at College of the Canyons.
