One Down

San Diego, CA -- The Citrus College Men's Basketball team finally for their 2013-2014 season underway on Friday evening at the Knight's Invitational hosted by San Diego City College. The Owls got one down, defeating Southwestern College 75-69.

The Owls led for all but four seconds of Friday's contest. Citrus scored the first four points of the game and the Jaguars only lead would come at the 16:49 mark of the first half. That was quickly erased by a free-throw from freshman John Roach and then a jumper by freshman Justin Childress. Citrus' largest lead would be 18 with just over 10 minutes to go in the second half. Only 20 turnovers and a 21 of 39 effort at the charity stripe would keep the contest from being a blowout.

In the win, Citrus was led by freshman Chris Reyes who kicked off his collegiate career with a double-double, 18 points and 11 boards. Sophomore Daniel Cheek added 17, while freshman Dominique Walker pitched in with 14. Roach scored 18 off the bench, 12 of which came in the first half.

With the win, Citrus improves to 1-0 on the year. The Owls will get a tall test on Saturday night when they take on SoCal #1 Mt. San Jacinto College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM in San Diego.
