Owls Struggle Through the Trees in Season Opener

San Diego, CA - Facing a starting lineup that averaged over 6'5 and featured two players over 6'11, the Citrus College Men's Basketball team struggled to get through the trees in their season opener at San Diego City College. The Owls were outscored 38-12 in the paint and held to just 30% shooting from the floor in a 80-65 loss.

The Owls came out of the gate strong even taking a seven point lead less than five minutes in. The Knights quickly erased that however and went into the break down five. In the second half San Diego City kept their foot on the gas and Citrus couldn't get the deficit to under double digits in the final 10 minutes.

In the loss, Citrus was led by sophomore Mark Williams who scored a game high 20 points. Freshman Kenneth Cyprian added 12 in his collegiate debut. Sophomore Ryan Wiley had a tough day shooting going just 2 of 7, but came up with a team high eight boards.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 0-1 on the young season. The Owls will be back in San Diego next weekend when they take part in the 2015 Knight's Invitational. Citrus open up the tournament against Southwestern College at 5:00 PM next Friday.
