Frigid on the Outside

Glendora, CA -- Facing a stout 2-3 zone that featured some of the best size in the State of California, the Citrus College Men's Basketball team settled for a third of their shot attempts coming from beyond the 3-point arc. The Owls were frigid from the outside hitting only seven of their 21 total attempts in a 75-83 loss to San Diego City College.

Citrus briefly held the lead to start the game, going up 7-4 after a pair of free-throws by freshman Teeqwaun James. San Diego would quickly take the lead over for themselves, but Citrus got a small run that saw sophomore Ryan Wiley score seven straight points to give the Owls back the lead 19-17 with 10:39 to go.

The Owls were only able to keep the Knights at bay for the next five minutes as a lay-in by San Diego with 5:37 made it 27-26 for the Knights. Citrus would never regain the lead. San Diego would close out the half on a 13-5 run and would go into the break, up 40-31. In the second half, the Knights controlled the game leading by double digits for most of the time and never allowing Citrus to get closer than eight points, multiple times throughout the final 20 minutes of action.

In the loss, Wiley led all Owls with 16 points and a team high 6 boards. Freshman Kenneth Cyprian added 14, four rebounds, and three steals.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 5-4 on the year. The Owls will take a break from action this coming week before jumping back into tournament play next Tuesday December 8th, when they face Barstow College in the first round of the 2015 Riverside Holiday Tournament.
