Citrus Too Hot To Handle For SD Miramar In Playoff Blowout

The Citrus College Men's Basketball team advanced to the 3rd round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs tonight in a lopsided contest vs visiting San Diego Miramar.  Citrus would prevail 99-72. The Owls controlled the game for much of the night, setting the tempo from the get-go and slowing down the run and gun offense of the Jets.

Citrus took some time to warm up from the field, but once things started to click midway through the first half, the fans in attendance witnessed first hand what Citrus has excelled at all year, shooting the lights out from the three-point line. The Owls finished the night with 17 three's altogether, demoralizing the Jet defense with a swarm of deep jump shots. Eight Citrus players sank at least one three pointer in the contest.

Leading the way for Citrus was none other than point guard and Western Conference East MVP Jermey Smith, who put up one of his strongest games of the season with 30 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Kyle Gray, the other Citrus First Team All Conference selection, hammered on the boards all night, grabbing 13 rebounds, dishing 4 assists and chipping in 9 points, including two three pointers, and sprinkled in a pair of blocked shots. Dead eye sharpshooter Austin Clarke, one of the best three point shooters in the region, dropped 4 shots from downtown on his way to 12 points. Jesse Elrod, who sank 2 three's, contributed 12 points to the cause as he went 100% from the field. Miles Crawford added a solid 10 points, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Citrus will move on to the Regional Finals next Saturday as they host Orange Coast College at 7:00 PM.
