Men’s Basketball: Century City

Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Men's Basketball team continued it's strong start to Western State Conference South Division play with it's third straight win over a ranked team. The Owls also hit the century mark for the second time this season, with a 104-85 win over State #14 West Los Angeles College. 

Citrus started Wednesday night's contest with an early lead, but it was West LA who looked to control the game as they used an early 12-0 run to jump out in front 17-8 with 13:28 remaining in the first half. The Owls would rally with a run of their own, this one 12-2, that pulled put them back on top 20-19 after a three by sophomore Tobin Kund. 

The two teams would exchange offensive punches, but the Owls never relinquished the lead back. The game would stay close, until Citrus used a 6-0 stretch to finish out the half, going into the break up 46-37 after a pair of free-throws by sophomore Collin Blanchard with three seconds to go. 

In the second half, Citrus continued to add to their lead running out to a game high 22 points after a triple by sophomore Alex Cartwright with 14:30 left in the game made it 66-44. From that point forward, Citrus' lead never dipped below 15 points as they went on to win by 19.    

In the win, sophomore Tyree Winborn scored a game high 23 points off the bench. Sophomore Toby Okwuokei had 17 points, six rebounds, and six assists, and sophomore Kendall Frey continued his recent strong stretch of play with 16 points and four boards. 

With the win, Citrus improves to 11-6 overall and 3-0 in WSC South play. Another large task looms for the Owls as they host State #7 Santa Monica College (13-4, 3-0) on Saturday evening. Tip-off is set for approximately 5:00 PM.
