Back In a Big Way

Bakersfield, CA -- After a year away from the Citrus College Men's Golf team, sophomore Jacob Rodriguez, made his second season debut for the Owls on Monday and Tuesday at the Bakersfield Double Eagle Tournament hosted by Bakersfield College. Rodriguez led the charge for Citrus, firing a pair of 76's en route to a 9th place overall individual finish and sixth place finish out of nine teams for the Owls.

The Owls were in the thick of it after the first day, with a combined team score of 397, just three strokes out of the two way tie for third place between Glendale and Ventura Colleges. Sophomore Daniel Olivas was the low man in round one with a three over par 75 at Bakersfield Country Club. Rodriguez's 76 was second best, while sophomore Brett Smith was a steady hand with a 79.

On the second day, Citrus just couldn't make up as much ground as the teams in front of them, as they shot a combined 399. Rodriguez had the lowest round with his second 76, while Smith came up with a 78, and Olivas a 80. In the end, Citrus finished 11 strokes behind fifth place Ventura and 15 back of fourth place Bakersfield.

Freshman Josh Davis had a solid start for the Owls following up his day one 82, by carding a round two strokes lower on day two with an 80. Freshman John Gaynor rounded out the scoring for Citrus, with an 85 and 88.

The Owls will be back out on the course this coming Monday and Wednesday when they take part in the Tee-Off Classic. Day One will be at Los Serranos North Course in Chino Hills on Monday at 8:00 AM, while day two will be at Los Serranos South Course in Chino Hills on Wednesday also at 8:00 AM.
