Owls Season Ends In Sixth Place at WSC Championships

Ojai, CA -- The Citrus College Men's' Golf 2013 season came to a close on Monday at the 2013 Western State Conference Championships at Soule Park Golf Course. The Owls opened the day up with an impressive start in the first round, but struggled in the afternoon round and finished in sixth place.

In the morning round, sophomore Jacob Rodriguez led the way with a 74. Sophomore's Brett Smith and Daniel Olivas along with freshmen Homerson So and Alex Cheng all came in after that with impressive rounds of 76. In total the Owls shot a 378 that first round, which had them in fifth place, but just three strokes back of third and nine back of second.

In the afternoon round, the Owls struggled. Smith carded an impressive 75, while Olivas came in with a 76. Rodriguez managed a 78, with Cheng posting a 79 and freshman Josh Davis coming in with the final scoring round of an 84. Combined, Citrus shot a 392, which dropped them out of contention for regionals and landed them in sixth place.

Individually Smith was the Owls' top finisher with a two round score of 151 good enough for 16th place overall. Rodriguez and Olivas both finished with combined scores of 152 which was a tie for 19th place overall, and Cheng just missed out on a Top 20 finish with a 155.
