Owls Season Ends at SoCal Championships

Oceanside, CA - The Citrus College Men's Golf team had their 2017 season come to an end on Monday. The Owls became the first Citrus team in recent memory to qualify for the CCCAA SoCal Championships, but unfortunately that's where their road ended as Citrus finished in 9th place and came up just shy of having an individual qualify for the State Championships.

Sophomore James Bragger did what he did all year long, and that was lead the Owls into the clubhouse. After an opening round 79, Bragger settled down and fired a 73 in the afternoon. That was good for a two-round score of 152. Of the teams who did not qualify as a group, that put Bragger in a six-way tie for one of two remaining individual spots in the State Championships. Unfortunately Bragger would lose a card-off, and wouldn't make it into the final two rounds of the season.

Finishing behind Bragger for the Owls were freshman Joshua Strong and Aaron Coiner. Strong was 80-81 on the day, while Coiner was 81-80 for Citrus. Freshman Adam Dinaully would contribute a pair of scoring rounds, shooting an opening 81, before finishing with an 82 in the afternoon round. The other two scoring rounds of the day would be split between sophomores Trevor Perry and Justin Orona. Perry shot an 80 in the first round, while Orona contributed a 82 in the final round.

As a team, Citrus posted a two-round total of 799, going 401 in the morning round and 398 in the afternoon. That put them nine out of the nine competing teams, but it wasn't as if Citrus wasn't in the thick of it. The Owls finished just 14 strokes back of sixth place College of the Desert.
