Citrus College opened Western State Conference action Monday at the River Ridge Golf Course strong, finishing with the second-best team score.

The Owls posted a 375 team score, their best score since 2019 and just nine strokes off first-place College of the Canyons' 366.

It was a close race internally with all five scorers for the Owls being separated by three strokes. Daichi Nishisu led Citrus with a career-best 74, while Lorenzo Herrera, Kabir Chadha and Chris Ruiz each carded a 75. Alex Morales rounded out the scorers with a 76, while Ashtin Mount was the Owls' drop score at 80.

Citrus – which shaved almost 30 strokes off its previous best team score this season – looks to build on its improvements as it heads to the Alisal River Golf Course for the second WSC event of the year on Monday, Feb. 19.
