Home Opener Goes South for Owls Against Cerritos

Glendora, CA - After a promising 3-1 win against NCAA DIII Cal Tech on Saturday afternoon, the Citrus College Men's Soccer team had felt good heading into their home opener against CCCAA powerhouse Cerritos College when they hosted the Falcons on Tuesday evening. Things went South quickly for the Owls, especially over the course of a four minute stretch in the second half, in a 7-0 loss to Cerritos.

Cerritos would score a pair of goals back-to-back in the first half to stake themselves to an early 2-0 lead on night. Despite the early two goals, one via a free kick that deflected off an Owl defender and into the opposite end of the net and the other a straight-up strong effort by the Falcons, Citrus had hope heading into the break, as they showed signs of promise and had even managed a pair of shots in the opening frame.

Eight minutes into the second half, Citrus' hope quickly began to fade though as the Falcons made it 3-0 in the 53rd minute. Shortly thereafter, Cerritos would go on to score three goals in a span of just four minutes to take a dominating 6-0 advantage. With nothing hanging in the balance, Cerritos added to their lead in the 75th minute, notching their seventh goal of the contest.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 1-1-0 on the young season. The Owls will be on the road for their next three tilts beginning with a Friday trip to San Marcos, where they will take on Palomar College at 3:00 PM.
