Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Men's Soccer continued it's strong 2016 campaign on Friday when it continued WSC South play with a 3-2 victory over visiting Bakersfield College. The Owls did so in large part to the play of freshman Ramon Gutierrez Jr. who razored through the Renegade defense, scoring twice and assisting on Citrus' other goal.

It took a little while for the goals start to coming, but when they did, they came at a strong rate. The first goal of the day would come in the 31st minute when Gutierrez Jr. sent a good ball into the box that found freshman Maximiliano Ramirez to give Citrus a 1-0 lead. Gutierrez Jr. would extend Citrus' lead just over 10 minutes into the second half when he took a pass from freshman Georg Yachoa and buried it to make it 2-0.

Bakersfield refused to go away silently though, scoring nine matters after that to make it 2-1. Gutierrez Jr. would rally the troops four more minutes later when he got a pass from sophomore Bryan Canchola and put it in the back of the net in the 68th minute to make it 3-1.

As it would turn out, that goal would prove to be extremely important as the Renegades drew a penalty in the box in stoppage time, giving them a penalty shot with little to no time remaining in stoppage time. The shot by Bakersfield's Edwin Bernal would just escape the grasp of freshman keeper Jorge Quinones Guerrero, but Gutierrez Jr.'s 68th minute strike would be the difference maker in the game.

In the win, Citrus improves to 6-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in WSC South play. The Owls will be back at home on Tuesday when it hosts Glendale College for a 3:00 PM showdown inside Citrus College Stadium.
