Men’s Soccer: Owls Finish Season On High Note

Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Men's Soccer team closed out their 2019 season on a high note on Friday afternoon with a 2-1 win inside Citrus College Stadium. Sophomore Sergio Gonzalez was the hero on the day, scoring both Owl goals and giving Citrus the victory in the waning seconds of the season.

In what proved to be a friendly tet-a-tet between the two conference rivals, it was Glendale who controlled much of the action on the afternoon. The Vaqueros outshot the Owls 10-4 in the opening frame, but the score was zeros at the break.

Glendale would break through in the 66th minute on a building goal that gave the Vaqueros a 1-0 lead. Seven minutes later, Citrus would retaliate when Gonzalez scored an unassisted strike that evened the game at a goal a piece in the 73rd minute.

With the clock winding down and desperation showing on both ends of the field, it was the experienced Gonzalez who would pull the Owls through. After taking a pass from sophomore Andy Garcia, Gonzalez buried the go-ahead goal in stoppage time to give Citrus a 2-1 victory in their final game of the year.

In the win, sophomore goalkeeper Thomas Garcia had a valiant effort turning away 14 Vaquero shots to help keep the Owls in the contest. With the win, Citrus' 2019 season comes to a close with the Owls posting a 2-2-4 mark in WSC play.
