Men’s Water Polo Adds Eight to All-WSC List

Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Men's Water Polo program added eight individuals to the All-Western State Conference list recently. Citrus had four 1st team selections and two each on the 2ndand Honorable Mention teams.

Leading the way was freshman Jonathan Wong (Claremont HS). Wong, who was one of just two Owls to start every single game for Citrus in 2016, led the entire State in scoring in 2016, scoring 142 times, for the second most goals in a single season in Citrus College history. Wong was also responsible for 45 assists, 42 steals, and 62 exclusions drawn.

Earning 1st team honors for the second time in his career was sophomore goalie Drake Santos (Los Osos HS). Santos, who sat out the 2015 season, was the other Owl to start every single game for Citrus this past season. Santos stopped 326 shots on the year and led the team with 72 steals. Santos also handed out 22 assists from the cage. His 588 career saves is third in program history.

Sophomore James Adams (Charter Oak HS), who was an Honorable Mention selection as a freshman, was also on the first team in 2016. Adams was third on the team with 46 goals, was second on the team with 47 assists, and added 27 steals to his resume. Sophomore James Cano (Charter Oak HS) would be the final Owl on the first team. Cano scored 21 times, notched 21 steals, and led the team in assists (51) and field blocks (12).

On the second team were sophomore Kristopher Williams (Monrovia HS) and freshman Panagiotis Giannoulias (Temple City HS). Williams scored 23 goals, was responsible for 42 assists, was tied for second on the team in steals with Wong with 42 on the year. Giannoulias meanwhile had 29 goals, drew 22 exclusions, and added nine assists and four steals.

Rounding out the honors were freshmen Ian Schubert (Bonita HS) and Alexander Mkrtchyan (Bonita HS) who were both Honorable Mention honorees. Schubert finished the season with 21 assists, 12 steals, and nine goals. Mkrtychyan contributed seven goals, three steals, and a pair of assists.

2016 All-Western State Conference Men's Water Polo List
