Overtime Barn Burner Caps Off 2018 Season For Men's Polo

Men's Polo fought until the bitter end in the Southern California Regional Championships vs Cuseta College on Thursday. The Owls fought hard through 2 overtime periods, falling just short of the mark and losing 13-14. The loss marks the end of the 2018 campaign for Citrus, who had played on of the toughest schedules in Southern California the season. The Owls end the season a respectable 13-10, and with a 3-2 conference record.

Thursday's elimination matchup against Cuesta marked the 3rd meeting for the two teams in 2018, with Cuesta owning the series 3-0 despite 2 games being decided by just one goal.

Thursday's game was a fiercely contested game between two perfectly matched up teams. Neither team led by more than a goal throughout the match, with lead changes happening several times. Heading into the end of regulation play, the teams were locked in a dead heat and exchanged goals back and forth until the 4th quarter whistle. Overtime proved to be just as exciting as Citrus tied up the score three times, ultimately running out of time and missing the mark by just a single goal.

Peyton Alonzo had his highest scoring game of the season, netting 5 goals in the effort and pitched in an assist. Noah Fonacier found the back of the cage 4 times and contributed an assist and a steal.

The Owls put a lid on the 2018 season that saw a new coaching staff and a host of new recruits that helped to elevate the level of play in the Citrus pool. First year Head Coach Erick Gonzalez will be gifted a full off season for recruiting purposes and training, a luxury he went without in 2018, having joined the Citrus Athletics family late in the late summer.
