Whittier, CA - After losing three straight contests, the Citrus College Softball team bounced back with a  vengeance on Wednesday afternoon. The Owls exploded for 16 hits and scored a season high 19 runs in a 19-0 win over host Rio Hondo College.

The Owls got things going right away when freshman Valerie Ortiz lifted a bases loaded RBI single to right field that brought in freshman Jacquelyn Preciado. On the play, the Rio right fielder misplayed the ball, and the remaining runners scored making it 3-0. Freshman Seanna Jimenez would add to the total a few minutes later when she hit a 2-run shot to make it 5-0.

Citrus kept it going in the second inning, using another Roadrunner error, another RBI single from Ortiz, and a wild pitch to extend their lead to 8-0. In the top of the third, it was sophomore Karissa Martinez who drove in a run on an RBI groundout. The Owls would blow the game wide open with 10 runs in the top of the fourth. Ortiz, Jimenez, freshman Vanessa Garcia, Martinez, sophomore Celine Spathias, sophomore Jade Nua, and Alvarado drove in runs in the inning.

With the offense, firing on all cylinders, freshman Danielle Dominguez did more than her share in the circle, giving up just two hits and a walk as she earned her fourth win of the season.

With the win, Citrus improves to 4-3 overall. The Owls will be back at home on Thursday when they host Santa Ana College at 3:00 PM.
