Citrus Softball let an early lead drop, but pushed back late and ultimately were victorious in an extra inning battle versus the visiting LA Valley Monarchs last night. The win marks the first conference win of the season for the Owls in as many games.

Citrus had led 3-1 through 5 innings on efficient hitting and base running. Same for La Valley, who came into last night's game at 6-2 on the season. The Monarchs had just 3 hits on the night, but were able to convert that into 3 runs, pushing the game into extra innings.

The Owls sewed together a creative patchwork of plays to score the winning run in the bottom of the 8th. It started with a Molly Montell single to right field. Pinch hitter Emily Paredez moved Montell to second on a fielders choice, Becky Winder earned a base on balls and with 2 outs, Montell would score on a wild pitch by LA Valley's Hanna Moulton.

Left fielder Valerie Ortiz drove in 2 RBI's on 1 hit with a run scored. Montell had a pair of singles on the night and scored a run. Becky Winder, who has faced 177 batters already this season, earned her 5th win of the season and moves to 5-3.

Citrus improves to 8-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference. The Owls take the field again tomorrow at Palomar for a doubleheader. Game times are scheduled for 11:00 and 1:00.
