Pasadena Trip Results In Split Day For Softball

Citrus Softball hit the 210 West on Friday for a regional triangular meetup against Pasadena City and San Diego City.  The Owls came away with a 10-2 mercy rule win over San Diego City, but dropped a 6-9 battle against Pasadena to start the day. 

Citrus went into the Friday contests following an enormous 18-2 mercy win over visiting WSC East foe Victor Valley on Thursday. That win featured an offensive barrage by the Owls that would lead to the highest scoring total of the year for Citrus and snapped what was a 2 game losing skid.

Friday's first matchup, against Pasadena City, was a fairly evenly matched game until the bottom of the 6th when Pasadena asserted itself at the plate and hammered in a whopping 6 runs. The monster inning gave the home team a 9-3 lead into the 7th. The Owls would battle it out, driving in 3 runs in a desperate rally that would end 3 runs short, dropping the game 6-9. 

The second game of the day for Citrus was against San Diego City. The Owls reversed their fortunes from earlier in the day and subsequently came out swinging, as it were. The Citrus offense routed the Knights, forcing a mercy rule ending after 6 innings, taking the contest 10-2. 

The Owls' offensive production was well distributed a amongst the roster, but a few standouts led the way. Alex Valenzuela boasted a couple of base hits, 1 of them a double, as she knocked in 3 RBI's. Giavanna Muenz, Mia Escobar and Brooke Fuss also had a pair of base hits each. Pitcher Becky Winder won her 6th decision of the year, facing 27 batters in 6 full innings pitched. 

The Owls move to 19-7 on the season, with an 8-6 WSC East Conference mark. Citrus gears up for the last stretch of their regular season as they take on Barstow at home this Thursday at 2:30. The lady Owls then turnaround and host a Cuesta doubleheader Friday, games times are scheduled for 1:00 and 3:00.
