Softball Notches First Win of 2019 in Round Robin Season Opener

Citrus Softball kicked off its 2019 season on Friday, hosting a three team round robin featuring Southwestern and El Camino Colleges. The Owls split on the day, first beating Southwestern 4-3 and then dropping the El Camino game 5-7.

Sophomore Giavanna Muenz picked up the win in the Southwestern game, allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk in 3 innings pitched. Muenz also notched a couple of base hits. Emily Peredez hit her first homer of the year, a solo shot in the bottom of the 6th. She also charted her 2nd RBI on the day with.a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 8th that drove in Becky Winder for the extra innings win. Katie Kempton got herself a pair of base hits in her collegiate debut, and knocked in 2 runs to boot.

In the El Camino game, the Owls generated offense, but couldn't put enough runs on the board to come out on top. Three Owls homered in the game. Muenz hit one out in the 1st inning to put the Owls up 1-0, and Alex Valenzuela and Brooke Fuss hit theirs in the 5th. Valenzuela's was a solo and Fuss's was a 3 run dinger that scored Winder and Muenz.

Citrus starts the year 1-1 and will take a week off before returning to the field Monday the 4th at Riverside. First pitch is at 3:00.
