No Mercy For Visiting Glendale

Citrus Softball extended its winning streak to 5 games on Thursday when they hosted WSC East Rival Glendale College. The Owls handily beat the Vaqueros in a mercy rule game that ended 13-0 after 5 innings. 

The game was the first meeting of the two teams in 2019, and Citrus had Glendale's number. It took only 4 team at-bats for the Owls to reach 13 runs, 6 of which came in the 3rd inning during a monster rally. Citrus hit .593 as a team, recording 16 hits and 11 RBI's. 

Becky Winder got the start in the circle and pitched a complete game, 2-hit shutout with 6 strikeouts and no walks. Winder only allowed 2 base runners in the outing. Her record improves to 5-3 on the season. 

Citrus' bats were hot and several players had impressive outings. At the plate, Winder went 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored and a stolen base. Melanie Barba had a banner day at the plate as well, notching a double and 2 singles. Barba drove in a run and scored 3. Brooke Fuss went off on the Glendale pitcher, going 2 for 3 including a 3 run homer and a ground rule double that secured her 4th RBI of the game. Fuss crossed home plate twice. Giavanna Muenz hit a 3rd inning double that drove in 3 runs. Emily Paredez went 2 for 3 with an RBI and 2 runs. 

The Owls improve to 11-12, an outstanding record when you consider the turnaround the team has created for itself. After a 3-11 start, the Owls have won 8 of their last 9 games and are now 4-3 in the WSC East. 

Citrus takes the field Friday at home against Cerritos at 3:00 PM for a regional game.
