Final Home Stand is a Split For Softball

The final two regular season home games of the 2019 season are in the books for Citrus Softball. The Owls hosted Santa Ana College and Pasadena City College for a triangular round robin on Saturday.

The Owls split the two games, losing the first to Santa Ana 2-5, and recovering quickly for the thrilling win against Pasadena in the second game.

In the matchup against Santa Ana, Citrus scored its only 2 runs in the 2nd inning, and Santa Ana took advantage, putting runs on the board in 3 different innings. The final 2 runs put the nail in the coffin for the Owls in the 5th inning, and the Dons would skate through the finish line for the 5-2 win.

Giavanna Muenz posted both RBI's for the Owls, driving in Alex Valenzuela and Cerina Martinez on a single in the 2nd inning. Five other Citrus players recorded base hits in the game. Emily Paredez was 2 for 3 and Megan Jones, Becky Winder, Brooke Fuss and Valenzuela each recorded singles.

In the second game vs Pasadena, Citrus beat the Lancers for the 2nd time in 2019, putting the winning run on the board in the bottom of the 7th after Pasadena's 7th inning rally equalized the score at 4-4.

Paredez and Martinez both posted doubles, with Paredez adding an RBI and 2 singles. Muenz hit a 3 run 4-bagger in the 2nd inning, scoring Valenzuela and Martinez.

The coup de gras for Citrus came in the bottom of the 7th. Down a run and with 2 outs, Brooke Fuss stepped to the plate and blooped a walk off single that scored Nicole Michels and captured the exciting win for the Owls.

Danielle Dominguez picked up the win from the circle in relief of starter Emily Paredez. Paredez had faced 32 batters before leaving the circle in the 7th inning. Dominguez improves to 4-9.

Citrus moves to 20-19 overall in 2019, and maintains its 8-5 conference record with 1 WSC East game left to play on Tuesday in Glendale. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 PM.
