Owls Soar In Run-Rule Victory

After giving up one run in the first inning, Citrus College exploded to a 12-3 run-rule victory over East Los Angeles College Friday afternoon.

The Owls improve to 10-20 on the year, while the Huskies slip to 12-16 overall.

Alexis Cordero was on fire offensively, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Mia Godoy (2-for-4) had four RBIs, while Jillian Walker went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

After the two teams exchanged a run in the first inning, the Owls opened the floodgates in the bottom of the second. With runners at second and third and two outs, Walker turned on a pitch and it bounced over the fence for a ground-rule double, scoring both runners in the process. The Owls then loaded the bases and Godoy drilled a base hit up the middle to send in another two runners. Patty Rodriguez jumped on the hitting train with a double to center field before the Huskies could get out of the jam.

Citrus picked up right where it left off in the bottom of the third, putting two runners on with no outs. Grace Kassotis knocked an RBI base hit before Walker walked to load the bases. Tatiana Figueroa walked in a run before Cordero grabbed a ground-rule double to send in two more runs. Godoy drove in another two before ELAC could end the inning, in a 12-1 hole.

The Huskies needed four runs to keep the game going but could only manage two as Citrus sealed the 12-3 victory.

In the circle, Jaidyn Harris allowed just one earned run to pick up her sixth win of the year.

Citrus hosts Oxnard College on Monday for a 3 p.m. non-conference game – a makeup from March – and turns around to host the College of the Canyons on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
