Owls Keep It Close With Chargers

Citrus College Softball hosted Cypress College today, falling 6-4 in a close game with the No.11 ranked team in the State. 

Citrus College goes to 2-7 on the season, while Cypress College improves to 4-1 overall on the year. 

Although the Owls did not get the outcome they hoped for, they kept the game close and held a lead throughout most of the game. 

After going down 1-0, Caitlin Kelley tied the game 1-1 with an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning to score Ava Camarena. Alivia Martinez extended the Owls' lead by hitting a double to center field scoring Kelley and Breanna Aguilar to put the Owls up 3-1 after two innings. Citrus went up 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Ava Camarena launched her first homerun of the season to left center. 

The Chargers were able to score four runs in the top of the fifth inning and did not allow the Owls to bring any more runs home with the final score being 6-4. 

Citrus College was led by Ava Camarena who went 1-for-2 with a homerun, two runs scored and one RBI. Alivia Martinez went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Caitlin Kelley went 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Caitlin Kelley pitched all seven innings, striking out two batters. 

Citrus College will travel to Cypress College for game two of the two-game series on Thursday, February 13th at 2 p.m.
