Owls Close Out Pre-Conference With Consolation Championship

El Cajon, CA - The Citrus College Women's Basketball team closed out their 2015 pre-conference schedule on Wednesday afternoon with a victory in the Consolation Championship Game of the 28th Annual Grossmont College Holiday Tournament. The Owls jumped out to an early lead and never looked back with a 93-55 victory over Cuesta College. 

 The Owls would score the first nine points of the contest, and 14 of the first 16. Citrus would hold the Cougars to just five total points in the first quarter. Cuesta would muster 19 points in the second quarter, but the Owls scored 29 as they led by 27 points at the break. Citrus didn't take their foot off the gas in the third quarter outscoring the Cougars 30-13. Cuesta would outscore Citrus finally in the fourth, but their six point advantage wasn't enough to overcome the big lead Citrus had built.

In the win, sophomore Janae Chamois led all scorers with 18 points. Freshman Joy Adlao 18 off the bench going 6 of 10 from downtown. Tiffany Villaruz rounded out the double digit scoring afternoons with 10 points, also off the bench. Sophomore point guard Elsie Mejia did a little bit of everything for Citrus in the win, scoring nine points, grabbing a team high seven rebounds, and handing out a game high eight assists. Mejia was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts.

With the win, Citrus improves to 7-6 on the season. The Owls will be back at home on Wednesday January 6th, 2016 when they kick-off Western State Conference South Division play against Bakersfield College in the Owls' Nest at 5:00 PM.
