Fighting Owl Women's Basketball Goes 2-1 in Cypress Tournament

Fighting Owl Women's Basketball finished up a 3-day stretch at the Cypress Lady Charger Classic over the weekend. The Owls went 2-1 in the tournament, capping off the weekend with a 69-34 blowout of Santa Monica in the Consolation Championship game. Citrus takes home the 3rd place trophy along with all tournament honors for Diana Navarro

Citrus started off the 3 day weekend with a well played loss to El Camino 53-67. The Owls struggled with field goal shooting percentage in the matchup, and seemed to falter at the free throw line as well.

But the setback was not only temporary, but a motivator for the tight knit squad, who recovered quickly for Saturday's contest vs Compton. The Owls proceeded to unload every weapon in their arsenal, piecing together their biggest margin of victory of the 2018-19 season and beating the Tartars 70-27. The win would lock them into the Consolation game Sunday vs Santa Monica. The Owls had 4 starters with double digit scoring, including Diana Navarro and Keely Wall who both dropped double doubles, with 12 points and 13 assists, and 14 points, 12 rebounds and 8 steals, respectively. Point Guard Kameron Seto far eclipsed her season best in points with 23 to lead all scorers, and buried 4 three pointers. Finally, post player Kyannie Brown netted 13 points in the win.

The Owls would continue their momentum into Sunday, as they put on another show for the Cypress crowd. Citrus handily beat Santa Monica in a 69-34 rout. The Owl defense held the Corsair roster to just 25.5% field goal shooting and just one player reached double digits in points. Citrus in the meantime shot 44% from the field. Kyannie Brown topped her season best to lead all scorers with 23 points, and added 11 rebounds to snatch the double double. Brown also had 3 blocked shots. Diana Navarro continued her steady play as she scored 11 points and added 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Kameron Seto scored 13 points and dished 7 assists to her teammates. Last but not least, reserve Celeste Fekay had her game of the season so far with 12 points and 8 rebounds.

The win moves the Owls to 5-4 in 2018-19. Citrus takes the floor again next Friday, the 14th as they travel to San Diego City College for a 5:00 PM tipoff, and then Wednesday the 19th against visiting West LA for their season home-opener.
