Citrus Seals the Deal With Compton in Home Win

Women's Basketball extended its win streak to 3 games on Thursday in a non-conference win over visiting Compton College. The Owls dispatched the Tartars 62-55, outworking the visitors on the boards and displaying high level ball movement that clearly separated the two teams.

Citrus finished up the 1st quarter down 15-17, but made quick adjustments and came out clicking in the 2nd quarter, capturing the lead 32-24 going into halftime. Citrus would maintain the lead for the rest of the game, despite being outscored in the 4th quarter by a surging Compton team that showed no signs of retreat. Compton pushed the Owls to the final buzzer, forcing late turnovers and converting transition plays that stressed the Citrus offense and forcing them to buckle down and seal the deal for the win.

Citrus saw strong play once again from a number of players. Offensive leader Kyannie Brown led the Owls in scoring with 19 points, adding 10 rebounds for the double double, and swatted a pair of Tartar shots. Diana Navarro sank 10 points and served up her teammates for 9 assists. Celeste Fekay had one of her strongest performances of the season with 15 points and 8 rebounds while also bumping up her free throw percentage for the season on 3 of 5 shooting from the line. Keely Wall missed a double double by 1 point after scoring 9 points and snagging a whopping 19 rebounds to lead all players.

Citrus improves to 10-5 on the season and have won 7 of their last 8 games. The Owls take the floor this on Saturday at home against Chaffey. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
