Strong Post Play and Forced Turnovers Key Factors in Win Over Chaffey

Citrus Women's Basketball extended its win streak to 4 games Saturday in a non-conference victory over visiting Chaffey College. The Owls topped the Panthers 61-50, despite a late 4th quarter surge by Chaffey that significantly chipped away at the Citrus lead.

The game was tight through the 1st half, with Citrus taking a 32-26 lead into the locker room. But the 3rd quarter would be the deciding factor as the Owls were firing on all cylinders, outscoring the Panthers 20-4 in the 3rd quarter to go up 52-30. But Chaffey wasn't interested in folding and clicked into gear, outscoring the Owls 20-9 in the 4th and making for an interesting finish to what was otherwise a clear victory for Citrus.

Post player Celeste Fekay continued her marked improvement on the the year, dropping a season high 22 points to lead all scorers, chipping in 7 rebounds and sinking all 4 of her foul shots. Diana Navarro was next in scoring with 16 points. Navarro also added 6 assists and 3 steals to round out her stat line. Kyannie Brown contributed 11 points on the night, a relatively slow night for the Owl offensive leader who leads all WSC players with 18.8 points per game.

Citrus improves to 11-5 on the season, with 2 games left before conference play. The Owls take to the hardwood again next Thursday when they travel to Moorpark College for a matchup against Sant Barbara. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 3:00.
