Owls Defend Home Court With Win Over Barstow

Women's Basketball continued its winning ways on Saturday with a solid conference victory over visiting WSC East foe Barstow College. Citrus sent the Vikings sailing home with a 58-33 thumping.

The Owls started out a bit sketchy, going down 0-7 right off the bat. But the defense turned on, the offense clicked and Citrus held Barstow to just 1 more point the entire first quarter, leading 18-8. From then it was all about expanding the lead. The Owls would do just that, as they led by as many as 31 points in the runaway win. The Owls played an overall solid game as a team, not a new or surprising fact at this stage in the season. Citrus out-rebounded the Vikings 37-26, out-passed them 15-4 on assists, scored 32 points off turnovers, capitalized on 13 second chance points and netted 26 points in the paint.

Individually, Kyannie Brown led all scorers with 16 points. She also grabbed 9 rebounds, 3 steals and blocked a pair of shots to round out her stat line. Keely Wall had one of her best performances of the year with 14 points and 12 rebounds to notch the double double. Wall also posted 2 assists, 4 steals and a terrorizing 5 blocked shots. Diana Navarro drained 3 three pointers en route to scoring 13 points. She also dished 4 assist to her teammates. Malia Rocha scored 10 points, and grabbed 4 rebounds.

Citrus improves to 17-9 overall and 6-2 in conference play. With two games left in the regular season, the Owls have a chance to finish with their best record since the late 2000's.

The Owls take the hardwood again Tuesday as they host Antelope Valley for a WSC East matchup, the last regular season home game of the year. Tipoff is at 7:00 PM.
